Travels

My Videos and Travels by Tyson — May 21, 2008 at 09:32 pm

Well that was an unnecessarily long travel time. I started out from Seattle at 3:30am, had a short layover in Houston, and finally arrived in Columbus at 4:30pm. Shortly afterward we all gathered to meet PK Gen as they came in and then went to dinner. I got to see Dan, Stephane, and Julie again, then got to meet Kazuma, Johann, and Forrest for the first time. Very cool to be talking with such experienced traceurs, I’m really looking forward to training with them and learning as much as I can.

The Ohio guys kick ass. They’ve arranged a crazy amount of stuff for this in short time, and still managed to fit everyone in (so far) for sleeping arrangements (the whole floor is covered in memory foam!) We had a quick late night creative training session that I really really enjoyed, and now I’m keeping everyone up with my typing…

Tomorrow is natural environment training on the rocks! Glad I brought my climbing shoes :)

I’m off to Columbus, Ohio for the big Parkour Generations event that Parkour Horizons is putting on. Four straight days of jamming with awesome traceurs from all over the US and our special guests from the UK. Will be blogging as much as I can but I have no idea how much internet access or time I’ll be able to get as AT&T just majorly screwed up sending me my new phone and I’m still on the shitty one (no tethering or internet).

See you there!

Updated with new footy!

Blog’s been quiet recently as I’ve been having a little mini-vacation with my folks in Vancouver, WA. I came down originally for a video shoot with some cool guys but I ended up staying down for Mother’s Day as well (love ya Mom!).

The shoot went really well though and I’m very excited to see the finished project. Why? We shot on the RED One digital camera system :) 110fps at 2K resolution, that’s about 4x slow motion in higher than full HD resolution.

Update: The song is “Death of a lonely superhero” by Clover. Here’s a link:

Hey everybody, I’m too tired to load any of the photos with this post but I wanted to make an update anyway. NYC ended up going quite well except for Mark getting pneumonia and having to go the hospital for all of it :P It tried to rain us out, but we had a few hours of dryness later in the day and busted out 3 or 4 good demos and workshops. Cheers to all the traceurs who came, and to everyone who came out for the jam the next day (which we had perfect weather for), that was a blast!

We finished up NY by getting up at 4am and flying to Hawaii to perform for Cisco Systems. The past few days have just consisted of rehearsals indoors all day long. The performance is shaping up nicely though and will be a huge one (5,000 people in the audience).

I really got to get some sleep though.

Wow, call time is at 5:30am and the weather is looking like rain… We’ll probably end up being there till 7pm too, this is going to be ridiculous, good thing we have a lot of people behind this one.

Edit: Still raining, taking a break while it clears up. It’s damn cold!

Edit: It cleared up for a few hours and actually went really well!

I know I know, I disappeared for awhile. But all is good and I have lots of pictures and posts built up that I just have to sit down and get out there. Unfortunately this blog is not a high priority for me right now as I’m straddling some very important projects at home that require as much attention as I can reasonably give. That and I’ve just been having too much fun and training really hard ;)

Anyway, we got Times Square as part of the K-Swiss tour! I’ll be performing and teaching right in the middle of it along with a bunch of friends from the Tribe this Friday the 4th from early AM to 4pm. My plane leaves in a few hours and I’m psyched to be going back to NY. We’ll be there all Saturday as well before heading out to Hawaii, so let’s get a big jam going!

Today and Yesterday feels like a crazy dream that can’t be true. We did three performances in Vegas, immediately drove to Dallas, got out of the car, and put on three more plus some workshops. That’s just crazy, and I need more sleep. Also, Texas sucks. The weather is random as hell and I just got very sunburned on a rather cold and windy day. But now the guys from San Antonio are here and it’s time to go eat and play. I should be able to sleep in the next week of training before Houston.

The 14 hours that have passed in between these blog posts has just been a mangled mess of junk food, pissing in the desert, Skipper getting pulled over, bad toilet jokes, uncomfortable sleeping positions, and too much time in a car!!! Oh well, we are almost there and our magical set awaits us along with some cool buddies from San Antonio and Austin. Apparently they can’t put the banners up because the towers would be blown over by the wind and the forecast has a high of 63, but we’ll adapt and have a good time regardless. That’s just how this stuff tends to go down with this group.

Well it’s dark now, and I think we missed the Grand Canyon. Nothing exciting has happened, except for a brief break to play in the snow. Mark is curled up with the suitcases in the back and it’s Skipper’s tun to drive…about 13 more hours to go, 100mph winds and flooding continues in Dallas where we are going…

Looks like we are now passing Hoover Dam and are all filled up with Chipotle burritoes in the Jeep Commander. We have one spot in the car to lie down in and sleep so we can get some shifts in on the way, but nineteen hours is still a long time no matter how you slice it. It sounds like all the flights in Dallas have been canceled and there is now apparently some flooding going on….will make for an interesting demo ;)
