News Articles and PNWPA and Ramblings by Tyson — Sep 08, 2008 at 01:12 am

Just noticed this post over on the Chase Jarvis website. Apparently the Seattle Metropolitan Parkour article we did back in April 07 (or at least the photos for it) won a PDN Magazine “Best Of” in the Magazine Editorial section, which also got a New York Photo Festival nomination.

Nice job to Chase, Morgan, and Daetan who did the original shoot (and the excellent Ninja followup)! I’m a big fan of Chase’s blog as he is a ridiculously good photographer who’s very open about his work. Hopefully in the future we can get him out to shoot some more Parkour shots with us, possibly donated to the PNWPA…hint hint….

A 20-30 minute portion of this warmup I believe was inspired by my inability to hold that sitting pose Forrest pushes people into much at all in the previous days warmup ;) Also the reason I was up front and center…

Watch the control Stephane and Kazuma are demonstrating here.

Wow. I was right there in the bandana and black shirt, and I don’t even remember how rock solid Kazuma’s balance is. That’s ridiculous.

Oh BTW, that jump to the railing he tests first has a 10ft drop on the other side…hence the spotters.

Cheers to Parkour Generations, Julie Angel, and Parkour Horizons for these!

RoKk, a buddy of mine from Mexico, just posted up an interesting interview he did with me a few weeks ago. He was nice enough to post both an English and Spanish version, check them out on the Monos Urbanos website.

And the future? What do you think will happen with Parkour in the next few years?

I feel almost as if a physical revolution is coming (especially here in the states). Where everyone realizes how lazy of an animal they’ve become and reclaims their natural movement capacities and sense of play, through Parkour! ;) This stuff really isn’t all that new, we just tend to forget when it’s easier to order in and watch TV….

So what do you do in Colorado (the deserty place) on rest days when you get bored (after climbing mountains and training the few days prior)? You drive up above the clouds, have a snowball fight, and climb even scarier mountains of course! We need a little work on this whole “staying on the trail” thing. I also need work on remembering to bring my good camera :(

Before the first video has even been completely finished and released, a new one we just shot in Seattle is coming out this Friday the 8th. Graciously sponsored by Stoel Rives law firm, this one focuses on a race in a full business suit across Seattle shot in full 4K (about 8 times the size of 720 HD) by the RED ONE camera.

Advice and Training by Tyson — Aug 02, 2008 at 02:42 am

I’ve been pretty depressed the last few days. I think what happens is that I come back from these trips (quite a bit I haven’t been blogging about, sorry!) to a larger workload than when I left, and I usually reserve the day or two afterward for resting and recovering which lives quite a lot I have to catch up on. The last few days all this random crap weighed down on me and I started procrastinating and sleeping a lot, which just makes everything worse ;)

Training by Tyson — Jul 11, 2008 at 02:39 am

To host some parkour travelers at my place, or at least it was my turn. I’m about to head out to the zipcar now to drive the last ones back to the airport. Just three days after coming back from the Chicago jam I had Ryan from Colorado, Matt from San Jose, Zac from Maryland, Jesse from New York, and Jereme from San Antonio all stay in Washington for about a week! I got to show off Freeway Park, Gasworks, UW, a bunch of cool people and jams from our scene, and then we even drove up to Bellingham for two days to train with Rafe and Dane at Whatcom and Clayton Beach :)

It was crazy fun and I’m really glad everything came together like it did, although I don’t think we managed to fit enough training in. Oh well, I’ll be seeing them all in Colorado soon anyway!

I feel bad for not bringing my camera along on Saturday, I had no idea how beautiful Chicago is. Wandering around downtown with 70 traceurs next to the river surrounded by huge skyscrapers is quite the experience. Not that many amazing spots downtown that I could see, but the college campus we were at beforehand (UIC) was fricken awesome and we only saw a small portion of it.

Yesterday wasn’t particularly hard, but I just wasn’t feeling the energy for today at all and am looking forward to finally coming home tomorrow. We attempted to some parkour this morning before heading to the beach, but it ended up torrentially raining on us when we got there and we found ourselves surrounded and blocked out from the outside by the gay pride parade. After taking more than an hour to get the few miles back home, we just went and watched WALL-E ;) Which is an awesome movie! Since I’m sitting next to Zac whose working on a writeup as well I’ll just leave it at that… ;)
