The safety technique for precision landings works!
I’ve been experimeting with this technique for awhile and put it to the test today on a tricky jumping course using the bar precision trainers.
The idea is that you land and allow yourself to not only go all the way down into a crouch but also put a hand down to the side. If you split your weight this allows a bit more strength control on your landing but the real benefit is that you can stick out the inbetween leg in front or in back for quite a lot of recovery, basically going directly into safety/step vault position.
It worked really well on a course I only did correctly without hands once. Surprisingly I found that I started jumping smarter too, possibly because it was easier to choose the target or I was able to relax more knowing I had more recovery room (I was try to imitate doing a bar to bar precision high up enough that you wouldn’t want to come down). Made the series of four jumps four times in a row.

Can you post some videos of this? Sounds like an interesting technique!
Thanks!
Good technique. This shows that a lot of rail work is psychological. Once you convince yourself that you can safely miss, you are able to have the 100% commitment required to land a rail-rail precision.
Another technique to stay safe on rails is to deliberately throw your body away from it if something goes wrong. No matter what direction you’re falling in, make sure you grab the rail and it will assure that your legs are the only thing that hit the ground (it might not be pretty sometimes, but it protects your head/spine.)
Hi Tyson, Me and my friend, Peter that goes to parkour vision,(you might know him)Peter taught me how do some parkour at my school and now we are filming it! I think my moms going to let me do parkour vision.
Have you guys seen this parkour stuff on MTV??? Pretty incredible.
Seriously, I wish I could run up a 10 foot wall and dismount with a backflip!!!
For now I think I’ll leave to the pros and save myself the concussion.
Check it out.

I ended up watching all the clips on the MTV site haha, goodbye Monday..cheers though some crazy sh** on there, agree with Matt though, will save myself the hospital visit!
Are you talking about jumping into a step vault and actually carrying through the motion? Like a step vault instead of a precision landing? Or is it just a 3 point landing ala a step vault? Because I’ve been slowly replacing nearly all of my precision landings with step vaults (when reasonable to do so) as to continue moving forward consistently. It’s a useful tool and feels amazing.
no it’s not diving step vaults I was mentioning, more of a three/two point landing for better balance using an arm
Lol, I tried doing that before when I jumped off my balcony. There were spikey weeds on the lawn…
Otherwise, it’s a good technique.
