My Videos and Travels by Tyson — May 21, 2008 at 09:32 pm

Well that was an unnecessarily long travel time. I started out from Seattle at 3:30am, had a short layover in Houston, and finally arrived in Columbus at 4:30pm. Shortly afterward we all gathered to meet PK Gen as they came in and then went to dinner. I got to see Dan, Stephane, and Julie again, then got to meet Kazuma, Johann, and Forrest for the first time. Very cool to be talking with such experienced traceurs, I’m really looking forward to training with them and learning as much as I can.

The Ohio guys kick ass. They’ve arranged a crazy amount of stuff for this in short time, and still managed to fit everyone in (so far) for sleeping arrangements (the whole floor is covered in memory foam!) We had a quick late night creative training session that I really really enjoyed, and now I’m keeping everyone up with my typing…

Tomorrow is natural environment training on the rocks! Glad I brought my climbing shoes :)

I’m off to Columbus, Ohio for the big Parkour Generations event that Parkour Horizons is putting on. Four straight days of jamming with awesome traceurs from all over the US and our special guests from the UK. Will be blogging as much as I can but I have no idea how much internet access or time I’ll be able to get as AT&T just majorly screwed up sending me my new phone and I’m still on the shitty one (no tethering or internet).

See you there!

Updated with new footy!

Blog’s been quiet recently as I’ve been having a little mini-vacation with my folks in Vancouver, WA. I came down originally for a video shoot with some cool guys but I ended up staying down for Mother’s Day as well (love ya Mom!).

The shoot went really well though and I’m very excited to see the finished project. Why? We shot on the RED One digital camera system :) 110fps at 2K resolution, that’s about 4x slow motion in higher than full HD resolution.

Update: The song is “Death of a lonely superhero” by Clover. Here’s a link:

Ramblings by Tyson — May 08, 2008 at 03:28 pm

This is a huge event happening all over the world simultaneously through TV, mobile phones, theatres, and live showings in seven languages. The idea is simply to bring the world together to watch several inspiring and transforming films chosen from over 2,500 submissions to connect us all and get the world talking. Should be amazing as it came out of one of my favorite idea generators the TED conference. Check out the talk that started the project -here-

The program on Pangea Day, May 10, is a celebration of the power of film to unite us all. You’ll see films that are funny — sad — gorgeous — stark — powerful. Voices that have never been heard before. Things you’ve never seen. Scenes from worlds you didn’t know existed. A cross-section of our amazing, complicated, noisy, beautiful world. Tune in or find a viewing party to watch on May 10, 2008, at 11:00 AM PDT.

-Click here- to find the many ways to watch. I know there is a big thing going on at UW, should be easy to find a local showing to see with a group, or just tune in yourself!

Ramblings and Teaching by Tyson — May 03, 2008 at 08:20 pm

Janine called me a workaholic the other day…and it’s weird because she’s totally right. I used to be the biggest slacker I knew throughout high school and college. I seriously had it down to an art, only putting the minimal amount of time into working as possible. That must have all changed big-time with parkour. I spend entire days (and nights) on the computer sometimes now, working on the never-ending amount of work that comes from running a nonprofit, moderating two parkour communities, working on APK/Tribe stuff, running promotion, learning video production, learning photography, and smuggling miniature chihuahuas across the border (harder than it sounds)…

YoutubeThe global front page of Youtube this Friday May 2nd will be showing ONLY Parkour videos all day long. The videos will be hand picked by the fine folks over at Parkour Generations.

Hopefully it won’t take all day to watch them all ;) Prompted me to clean up and add to my Youtube channel.

Known as a ‘Takeover Day’, this event will give incredible new exposure to the grass roots of the discipline and will bring it to a whole new audience. The videos have been selected to show the international nature of parkour and the day-to-day nature of practise as opposed to the media spectacle that is so often given the limelight, and the eclectic range of edits comes from many of the global communities that Parkour Generations has had the pleasure of working with.
