April 2007

Training and Travels by Tyson — Apr 29, 2007 at 06:55 pm

Managed to make it all the through the rehearsal a few times today without dieing of exhaustion (felt close though).

Having some fun before I leave DC, thank you Paul for the great bonfire and Mark for the tasty “dinner.”

We leave tomorrow early for the airport (rumor has it this is supposed to take like 20 hours or some nonsense), which means we need to get up even earlier to practice the routine some more (The Tribe is dedicated hoohah! ;) )

Stunts and Training by Tyson — Apr 28, 2007 at 02:22 pm

Is a very long time. 3 minutes straight of freerunning with the pressure of keeping to the clock and managing cues. I had no idea how difficult this performance would be, I can tell though that I can definitely do it, just have to get my mind used to it.

Good news is that I am in! They loved our three people demo footage so much that they gave the go ahead for all of us…they just will only pay for two…bullshit really. But Frosti and Levi are cool and are spreading the wealth so that we will be paid equally (it’s not much of a difference). It was really just a choice of putting on a much better performance with more room for pauses and breaks or bitching about money. The Tribe sticks together and we care about doing a good job, so we re-choreographed everything today and ran through it a ton until it was smooth. Now just need to work on endurance training.

We leave Monday, wish us luck!

My Videos by Tyson — Apr 27, 2007 at 10:49 am

Here’s an old one not many people have probably seen. Some guys were shooting a podcast in association with Nike and they came out to do an episode on parkour. The premise is actually a pretty cool one, this guy was docking 300 miles of running while visiting groups and individuals all along the West coast. You can see all the episodes on Itunes still I believe.

Tyson Cecka Nike+ Parkour Podcast Video. If you can’t see this parkour video then you may need to activate Javascript.

It was actually on Nike.com for a little while which was sweet. A couple people from WAPK also gave the idea a try (without the traveling), I don’t remember if they finished it though.

I left Washington right when it started getting really sunny and nice, over here in DC it’s either raining or too hot :(

All the rehearsal gear has to stay outside so it’s tarped down currently. It’s a good thing everything is choreographed by now, we’re just working on the timing now.

Sadly, it sounds like I am going to be stuck as a backup. I still get to go to Hong Kong and everything I just may not be performing with Levi and Frosti. This was sort of the plan from the beginning but they have been on the fence for awhile, it’s surprising how little money they want to spend on this stuff. We sent them some video showing them some of the amazingness that three performers can bring on their obstacles but it sounds like it started more arguments than good, we’ll see I guess.

For Washington DC at least…but I did wear my Washington Parkour shirt! It was pretty crazy, they filmed Jesse and Mark teaching an “advanced” parkour class with some of us Tribesman helping out. Pretty much just packed the gym full and had a great time, definitely worth the preparation.

It will show on Monday in DC at 4pm on CBS (I think channel 4). Not sure if a video will pop up out of it, hopefully someone can record it.

Getting better at this cleaning thing as we finish the other half of the gym ;) Today was pretty much all choreography and cleaning but I have found out why: a CBS news crew is coming tonight! And the gym is spotless thanks to the Tribe cleaning services. I’ll post when I figure out when it airs.

I haven’t gotten a shot yet of my free stuff bag, but it feels like I’m being paid in shoes for all this cleaning. I’m glad I left some room in my luggage :)

…I just witnessed a drive-by shooting at another car tonight. Totally out of blue three shots ring out and the car being shot at runs into a wall. We just took off running and I called 911 to report it. Absolutely nuts, it was a department store parking lot entrance!

I don’t have any other information on it but all of us are ok. The gym is right next to a police station so I should get idea on what is happening later (it’s pretty funny training outside on the structures we built with the police department watching us the whole time).

Introducing The Tribe cleaning services, coming to a gym near you.

Another one of Jesse’s diabolical workouts, this one I had to learn how to use a mop for. I’m totally categorizing this under training, it was hard!

Yesterday we found my weaknesses, today I was able to play with my strengths. We took a break from the very hard workouts and just did the APK WOD today.

Warmup x 4: lunges x 10, kb swing (8kg) x 10, push-ups x 10, font/side planks 45s per side.

2min breaks in-between with whatever weights we felt like.
Pull-ups: body weight x 8, 15lbs x 6, 25 x 4, 35 x 3, 40 x 3, 50 x 3, 65 x 3
Dips: BW x 8, 15lbs x 6, 20 x 4, 25 x 3, 30 x 3, 40 x 3, 50 x 3

10 x 15sec L-sits, 1 min rests

I had never really done weighted much of anything before so today was a lot of experimentation, very fun :)

Afterwards I put on the 20lbs weight vest and tried some muscle-ups. Walls are easy, bars hard with a kip, rings very very hard with a large kip. Definitely going to be feeling this tomorrow.
